Coach  |  Blogging From the Dragon’s Lair

September 28, 2009

Hello Survivor fans and welcome to the first official “Immunity Blog” on CBS.com with the Dragon Slayer and the Princess giving our thoughts on the season.

Let’s not waste anytime here. I know there are already lots of comparisons between last season’s number one “villain” Coach (aka the Dragon Slayer) and the new villain on Survivor: Samoa, Russell Hantz. Lets compare the two of us if we shall because I for one think we are polar opposites. You might disagree but as iron sharpens iron perhaps we can come up with more similarities/opposites.

Coach                                                     Russell H.
Noble                                                      Ignoble
Honest                                                    Dishonest
Unselfish                                                Selfish
Team Player                                         In It For Himself
Tells Inspirational Stories              Tells Flat Out Lies

Despite all that, I was impressed with him finding the immunity idol without a clue. I know Debbie may not believe me, but I actually have to give him a lot of credit for playing the game harder at this point then just about anyone I’ve seen in a long time.

Now that’s out of the way, I really want to focus on the people who are not getting all the attention and might be major characters of the season.

I’ve got to go back to last week’s episode. The Dragon Slayer once said, “take your weaknesses and make them your strength. Take your strengths and make yourself invincible.” So when Shambo basically said “ah shucks, smarts aint my thing” and then she proceeded to rock the puzzle in the first challenge of the season, I had stop and think for a second. Was she just playing the game at that point? Or is she a real person, one who is going to bring that “down home” work ethic and determination to the “survival” aspect on Survivor.

But wait a minute; remember that often times just when someone impresses you…they blow it. One thing I have learned in Survivor is to not say something absolute or concrete (that storm is going to go right past us…remember?) Shambo had to go and brag to the tribe and say, “spear fishing is my thing”. Not only did she not catch any fish, but she also lost some of the fishing gear. You have to catch fish to live out there…. not a good move Shambo.

Now as many of us have already established, Russell H. will be the guy this year most people will despise. But Ben is another villain that we will love to hate, or hate to love this season. So he smashed and killed a lizard to eat. Not bad. But the things that come out of his mouth? Straight forward, guttural, spiteful and….come on you have to admit…kind of funny at times.

My top three of the night: Calling Yasmin a hooker, calling Yasmin Ghetto trash and saying that she should go back to eating catsup sandwiches and kool aid.

Yasmin, you gotta admit you asked for controversy. Now I don’t condone using derogatory terms, but I mean come on. You go over to the other tribe and approach it that way? You should be walking on eggshells. You are on enemy samurai ground. Dragon Slayer rule: “Tread lightly and carry no stick!” And then you take on Ben by confronting him? I’ll say one thing for him, the guy will take ownership of his actions.

Now if Ben can just stop high fiving Russell in front of everyone at tribal, stop chopping wood in the middle of the night, and stop getting kicked out of challenges, maybe he might be around awhile to give us more laughs and sarcasm. But please, no shooting police officers, even with a “hand” gun. Not cool.

Betsy: Too bad you had to leave so soon. You are a straightforward cop, with good instincts. Why wouldn’t anyone listen to you!!!! “Trust your intuition..its strong!” What a great line, if only the ladies would have listened to you, because I think they are on the chopping block next. Not only did you call out Russell from day one but you called out Ben as a bad apple as well. Two for two in my book!

That’s all from the Dragon’s Lair for this week. Have a great weekend!

Coach

Debbie  |  Russell is the New Dragon to Slay

September 28, 2009

Hi everyone! I’m back and I’m thrilled to be apart of these “Immunity Blogs” with the Dragon Slayer. Let’s dive right in shall we?

It appears Samoa is going to be a wild ride. This season has started with a bang and, in my opinion, has two cast members that could possibly go down as the most hated Survivors ever! Sorry Coach! Russell is quickly emerging as a total sinister, pathologic jerk. As a matter of fact, he can be your new dragon to slay. For anyone to gain sympathy by telling a lie about being in the New Orleans Katrina disaster is not only sick, but also maddening.

Being from the South and having victims move their children into my school and community, I have personally witnessed what true victims of this tragedy have gone through. They’ve lost homes and possessions they will never regain. I know lying is a part of Survivor; however, using a personal lie like Johnny Fairplay and his grandmother story is one thing, but not a terrible natural disaster. That infuriated me!

Then you have Ben, ironically Russell’s tribemate. Ben’s cultural comments regarding Yasmin were out of line and totally inappropriate. He has completely shown his ignorance. I have to give Marissa and Betsy complete credit. They were on to both Ben and Russell from the beginning and unfortunately it costs them. Is Russell really controlling this game? I still have to have faith that Foa Foa will catch on to him soon.

I’m hoping Jasion will eventually turn on him. I get the feeling he’s going to emerge as a strong leader and hopefully will do well in this game as a result. He has remained calm, but is also very smart and is going to catch on to these guys. Strength is key in this game; however, a major component is who can you live with and who you can tolerate in those terrible harsh conditions. Much more time is spent around camp and living together than in the challenges. It is obvious that Foa Foa has not connected. Maybe that will change?

Moving on to Galu, it’s very clear, we don’t know much about them. Although what we do know is that Russell sent Yasmin to collect information on Foa Foa with interesting results. She should have gone into camp, laid low, and then persuaded them to talk to her to bring information back to Galu. That clearly didn’t happen! Knowing the other tribe members is critical for the merge and challenges. Yasmin probably set everyone back a few steps with that little trip.

On a separate note, Shambo, why in the world would you tell everyone you lost the mouth piece while lying in the water and relaxing? Are you nuts?!? Tell them a shark ate it. Tell them a dragon came down from the sky and scooped it out of your hand. Tell them anything else, but don’t tell them you lost it and then chilled for an hour. Now you have a big target on your back. I still don’t understand why Shambo went fishing alone. Where was the rest of the tribe? I guess they must not have been that hungry.

To wrap-up, I’m sorry to see Betsy go; she was a smart woman with great instincts. Although I was not surprised to see Mike’s health fail. I was concerned from the moment he fell off of the boat arriving in camp. I have to give him credit though, because he gave the challenge his all.

Next week’s preview gives me some hope that things are going turn around for Foa Foa, although I guess we will have to wait and see. I am also anxious to see more of the Galu tribe. It appears on the surface that they are not as dysfunctional as Foa Foa, but this is “Survivor” and first impressions aren’t always right.

Survivor Tocantins Final 5 prepare for the Coach showdown

Only 2 more episodes left of Survivor Tocantins! Thursday where the final 5 are stuck dealing with Coach and his delusional self. The Dragon warrior is supposed to be the highlight of the show Thursday before the final 4 hit the 3 hour finale on Sunday!

So…who is left Coach, Erinn, JT, Stephen, Taj…I honestly hope either JT or Taj wins or even Erinn with an upset but boy I sure hope Coach is gone this Thursday! He is good TV but I am so tired of his stories! He needs to go before he causes the viewers to change the channel! However, it is a train wreck we cannot stop watching!

We interrupt this blog post to bring you this quick COACH moment….

See…Coach “suffers” more then any of the other survivors! Insane! So with that I leave you…behind but finally caught up. Be sure to watch Thursday night and Sunday night where the final 4 will fight it out for the title Sole Survivor of Survivor Tocantins.

Merge Looming and it is Everyone for Themselves

Tonight is the night…another episode of Survivor and from the previews it is all about the merge. Everyone will be playing for themselves.

I honestly think for this season especially it is going to be very interesting to see if the secret alliance grown from the Exile Island effects things. I have a strong feeling that it is going to…but who knows how or where.

If I was there I would start to target the strong…or the not so smart. In both cases I would definately want Coach out ASAP. However, as all years past the person I really want out always seems to be there until the end. *(sigh)*

So I want to hear from you….who is going to be the next one out. Tribes merged and it is all against all. Who is going to go? Who do you want to see go?

Peace, JP (aka BBBlogger)

Hungry enough to eat termites

Tonight Survivor Tocantins was hyped as the wettest and wildest ever.  Well, I am fairly confident it did not live up to the hype.

When the tribe had come back from tribal council it looked like Sandy would be next.  I personally think she will be around a little bit longer than that.

You can tell that the hunger pains are kickin in when they start looking for anything to eat.  From worms to termites.  I once ate a moth and it did nothing for me but I guess if your hungry enough to eat anything…you do just that…eat anything!

Seems like Coach has found either a love interest or an arch enemy in Candace.  They seem to not see eye to eye…but then in a weird and awkward moment he ended up licking her face.  I expect great things to come from Coach this season!

In the hyped “wet and wild” competition there was little to really be amazed from.  But here are my points I would like to bring up from the game.

I loved the drama of the Timbira being up 2-0 and then  Jalapao coming back to win 3-2.  Awesome!!  I thought the one round when it was 1-0 and it was 2 guys and 1 girl from each team that Sandy held the one littler lady by her bikini top in the back.  She was waving her hand like she had roped a calf.  She is very comical and a little nutty….that is why I am liking Sandy still!

Since my blog readers KNOW SURVIVOR, they were right about the twist having to do with Exile island.  I like the fact that it was 2 people….one per team….I also like the fact that they could go to another tribe if desired.  If that is a weekly thing, anyone feeling like an outcast or in danger on their tribe could go to the other tribe (which they would ALSO be an outcast) but it still could make for some drama.  Guess we will see.

Brenden seemed to be a little slow to understand the term “tribes homelands”…made me chuckle.

Not sure why Taj told people she was married to Eddie George.  You don’t give people a REASON to vote you off like that…she was a brute in the basketball in the water challenge but still…keep those things underwraps.

Timbira had a date with tribal council.  Sure enough they all talked and sure enough another lady was voted off.  I liked how Jeff said that it was “another blindside”.  Aren’t all tribal council’s going to be a blind side…it is a “secret vote” after all.  :)

Candace did not make the cut.  She was voted out 7-1.

So the ladies are not doing to well yet this season.  Do you think Coach’s ego will be his downfall?  What did you think of the twist?

I anxiously await your comments.  I will be posting next week’s preview on Tuesday so be ready.  Until then….happy surfing!

Peace,   JP (aka BBBlogger)

Survivor Tocantins is going to get Wet ‘n Wild

You have to love how they are promoting the next show. They try so hard to do anything to entice you to tune in and watch. After the first episode, they did the standard, “Next Week on Survivor”…which I always love a good teaser. They promoted it as the “wettest and wildest Survivor yet”. Now…I am not sure but I seem to remember a few survivors back where 2 people were on exile island and there was non stop rain for most of their stay. To me that looked like the “wettest” and to me….the wildest was when ladies were dropping their clothes for peanut butter! :) (side note: wonder if they would still do that if the peanut butter was from Peanut Corporation of America….now THAT is TRULY SURVIVOR….but I digress)

So with the tease we know this stuff. 1. They play a game/challenge in the water and it is raining. Everyone running around 1/2 naked and as always….someone wins….someone loses…someone “accidentally” loses some part of their swim suit where CBS has to blurr it out.

The main thing that I am interested to see is what does Jeff Probst (NOT ME) have up his sleeve? He said their is a twist that will be revealed after the challenge. My guess is it is a clue to the hidden immunity idol but who knows. Maybe another version of exile island. Maybe a member of a tribe will switch. Maybe it’s an Oprah moment and Jeff Probst (again not me) says “You get a car….and you get a car….etc)

No matter what…I will be tuned in and my guess is all of the readers of Survivor Blog will be tuned in to see what exactly will happen next.

So now it is your turn…what do you think the twist will be? Do you think the show will live up to the Wildest yet? Also…tell me what your favorite “wettest or wildest” moment from survivors past was. Love to hear from you all. Only 2 more days until the next show.

Peace, JP

Survivor 18 starts off with a twist…

…and how many of you HONESTLY thought they would go all that way to the Brazilian highlands just to be eliminated in 5 minutes?

I knew they would not be cast off right away….but I find it interesting that they got to go straight to the camps.  Kind of like Survivor’s version of a “Go To Jail” card in Monopoly.  You know…”Go Directly To Jail.  Do not Pass Go, Do not hike for hours to camp through Brazil.”  or something like that.  Very interesting twist to kick off the season.  Looks like they tried to see if the game about getting along with people would be effected by such a twist.

The tribe, Jalapao, made the “old lady” an early target.  Sandy was a little excited (ok…upset) about being sterotypically pointed out as the weakest link and “voted out”.  At the imunity challenge she showed that she may be a little older but she is a strong woman and a huge competitor.

The other tribe, Timbira, targeted the skinny weak looking blonde girl.  It probably did not help that she was feeling sick but Sierra was the first of her tribe to be voted out.  She looked upset but to me a little relived.  However, she just got a quick ride to camp.   I thought she was SMART to build the shelter at camp.  She is a keeper and there is more there than it seems.  I look forward to her getting better as the season goes on.

The immunity challenge was a run far, get wood, get wet, get back, build steps and solve a puzzle to raise your flag.    Another variation of an old theme.  Timbira won in a come back.

Tribal….it looked like the tribe would vote the same way making the first Survivor voted out Sandy the bus driver…but then there was Carolina.

Carolina is hot.  She has huge breasts and well has an even bigger mouth.  She opened it, annoyed everyone and she is now history.  (sorry fellas)  She was the weakest link and may not have caused the loss but she did not help and as Jeff Probst always lets people know….you have to learn to get along.  She though Sandy was a goner for sure….but instead it was bye bye sweet Carolina!

So what did you think?  Was it worth watching?  Are you excited to watch the rest of the season?  Who looks strong?  Who looks like they will go home shortly!

Glad your here…..I will post weekly….maybe 2 times….depending on how much time I can find.

Peace, Jeff Probst   (legal disclaimer….I am not really Jeff Probst!)

Peace,  BBBlogger of Big-Brother-Blog.com  :)

Survivor Gabon Season 17 – Earth’s Last Eden Is Over!

It is time to say goodbye to Gabon. It has been a lovely season and it has finally come to a close.

The final five are Susie, Sugar, Kenny, Matty and Bob. Bob has been the one that they want to vote out but every time they want to, Bob goes and wins the immunity challenge. He won 5 straight challenges. So once Bob has won immunity, the vote changes towards Susie. Sugar thinking that Kenny is a bigger threat goes and votes for Kenny and gets the others to as well.  So Kenny is voted out. This decision of Sugar’s is going to come back and bite her.

The next morning, Susie knows she is definitely gone unless she wins immunity. Matty goes to get tree mail and after that the final four – Matty, Bob, Susie and Sugar embark upon their Rites of Passage honoring all the previous tribe mates voted out.

They then embark upon their immunity challenge which is making a house of cards as high as possible within 30 minutes. Susie wins this out of nowhere. She won the first individually immunity and she won the last individual immunity.

Matty & sugar decide to vote out Bob now. Sugar though changes her mind later. She can’t decide who to vote out between Matty & Bob. Eventually she forces a tie between them by voting for Matty. The tie-breaker challenge is a fire making challenge. Who can make the largest fire enough to burn a piece of thread.Bob wins this challenge and Matty is voted out.

On the final day, the final three go to check their Tree Mail but their is none. Instead their is a huge breakfast feast for them.

After this they go and set their shelter and watch it burn.

Later that night, the final three go to Tribal Council to meet the seven member jury who is going to decide their fate.

Corrinne lets loose against Susie. Kenny is pretty upset at Bob. Randy is upset at them all.

After all the Jury members speak to the final three it is time to vote.

They then cut to the live viewing of the CBS Hollywood Studio where all the members are sitting. It is for the Survivor Reunion episode. The votes are then read and Susie gets three and Bob gets three votes. Sugar gets none. It all comes down to Randy’s votes. He votes Bob and Bob is the official winner of Survivor Gabon Season 17.

At age 58, Bob becomes the oldest Survivor winner. Tom from Palau, 41 years old when he won, is now the second oldest. Bob is the tenth male to win, while seven females have won the title of sole survivor

Go Bob!

Do you think Bob deserved to win Survivor Gabon?
Don’t you think Sugar deserved at least one vote from the Jury members?
Do you think Susie played a perfect game but her not winning many challenges hampered her chances of winning?
How did you like this Season of Survivor?

What did you like best about this Season?
What made you hate this Season?
How would you rate this Season of Survivor?

Merge Has Come And The Power Shifts

Hello guys… I am back again.

The new merged tribe is now called Nobag Tribe. The opposite of Gabon. A pretty good name.

Did anyone see last weeks episode? So the merge has come and there were 9 players left.3 blindsights in a row and the power man is now Kenny and Sugar. Kenny because he is the mastermind behind everything and Sugar with her immunity idol.

It was time for The Survivor Auction! I really like this part of the game. The items that were on sale were, Chocolate Chip Cookies, A hot bath, a chance to send someone to exile island, a passage to the last round of the immunity challenge, beer & peanuts, chocolate & peanut butter.

Nobody likes Randy except Corrine and Bob. The rest of them detest him and they were planning on voting on him. Corrine & Randy failed to get Matty on their side.

Bob was sent to exile island where he couldn’t find the hidden immunity idol and so he made one himself. He then gave that to Randy to use at the Tribal Council. Sugar convinced Bob to give it to Randy for laughs.

At the immunity challenge, Kenny, Matty and Corrine made it to the final round. Corrine desperately needed the immunity to keep her group of three strong except that Kenny won immunity challenge. Corrine and Bob hate Susie and so does Randy. Their plan was to use Bob’s hidden immunity idol to keep himself safe and vote out Susie.

At the Tribal Council, Randy plays the immunity idol but finds out that it is a fake one. So he gets voted out.

My god Randy must be pissed off to the core after this. I wonder what he will do while be a jury member.

Only 7 Survivors are left. Who will be voted out next?

Do you guys remember when Marcus & Charlie got the group of people to throw the hidden immunity idol into the water? Well, they threw the bottle but never checked it. Marcus kept the idol in his pocket and then hid it around camp. Only Bob knows about this.

In next weeks episode, Bob tells this to Corrine and now they also have a hidden immunity idol along with Sugar. I think Corrine is going to go but wil play the idol which will make Susie the one who has to go.

Who do you think is going to go next week?
Will the hidden immunity idol that Bob has come into play?
Who do you think has the power now?

That is all for now. I will be back later with more recaps and more insights and opinions.

If you have any comments or questions then please do post in the comments below.

3 And A Half Weeks And 7 Episodes In And The Surprises, Mix Ups And The Game Keeps Changing Towards The Unknown

Hello guys…

Survivor Gabon and the contestants are 24 days in which is 3 and a half weeks. There are now only 10 Survivors left on Gabon and we finally have our first member of the Jury.

As we stand right now, 9 people have been voted out.

They are; (In order of elimination)

1. Michelle
2. Gillian
3. Paloma
4. Jacquie
5. GC
6. Kelly
7. Ace
8. Dan
9. Marcus

Until now, we now that Sugar has the hidden immunity idol. Sugar was dumb enough to blindsight her biggest allie Ace. She made a huge mistake to vote out Ace and realises it in the 7th episode of the season which aired this past Thursday.

Lets see what else… There have been two tribal switches. Both came as a surpsise to the Survivors.
The first one came in Episode 4 where the Survivors had to rank themselves within their tribe. The two highest ranked members would be new captains. They then would pick new tribes one by one.
The second switch came in the most recent episode and it came as a huge shock. With 10 Survivors left, all of them thought a merge was imminent, but little did they know that they would be mixed up again. They had to pick numbers and then odd numbers were together as were even.

Marcus made possibly the worst move so far besides Sugar blind sighting Ace. Actually it was Randy’s idea to do so. This did hurt Marcus though. Randy got the group of 10 people to throw away another hidden immunity idol. Before throwing it, they offered it to anyone but no one took it.

I think this move was a blow to Marcus and the other thing was that he could not swing Suzie towards himself. So Marcus became the 9th person to be voted off on Survivor and became the first member of the Jury.

Finally, the tribes as they stand as of Day 24;

Kota: Bob, Susie, Crystal and Kenny
Fang: Corrine, Charlie, Randy, Sugar and Matty

As we stand now on the alliances;

Kota: Susie, Crystal and Kenny are together and Bob is on the edge.

Fang: Corrine, Charlie and Randy are together. Sugar and Matty are really strong because Sugar has the hidden immunity idol. Matty did win Fang the immunity challenge though so that might change the alliances in this tribe up a little bit.

Do you think Sugar can make the merge?
If Kota lose then is Bob going to be voted out?
Will Susie (who should have been out a long time ago) make the merge?
Can Sugar use her immunity idol effectively?
Will it now be Kota’s turn to be on a losing streak?

That is all for now. I will be back later with more recaps and more insights and opinions.
